The Rise and Fall of the American
Manufacturer
In the last couple years, the American economic outlook has
been bleak. Industries of all shapes and sizes have faced enormous
challenges as they've struggled to adapt to the current fiscal
climate. And nobody would disagree that one of the industries hit

overseas companies was manufacturing.

Product Spotlight
SolidWorks 3DVIA
Composer
3DVIA Composer is a tool for repurposing 3D CAD data to create
both static and interactive content for technical communication,
such as assembly instructions, product manuals, marketing
collateral and training material.
Adding a new dimension to product communications, 3DVIA Composer
software helps product developers cut costs, save time, and grow
their competitive advantage. With 3DVIA Composer technology,
manufacturing organizations can leverage existing 3D CAD data to
streamline development of technical communications and create more
compelling documentation with higher impact. You can start your
documentation sooner, update it faster, and complete it with the
product design, giving you lower costs and decreased time to
market.

Tech Tip
Customize Shortcut Bar
If you're a keyboard shortcut user you probably use the
"Shortcut Bar" all the time. Did you know you can customize it? By
default, the shortcut bar comes up when you press the "s" key and
gives you an assortment of in-context commands. You can add
additional commands for the Part, Assembly, Drawing and Sketch
modes.
1. While in a part, right-click the shortcut bar, select
"customize", and drag your commands onto the bar. Those commands
will exist on the shortcut bar while you are in the part mode.
2. Now do the same from within an Assembly, a Drawing and a
Sketch to customize the shortcut bar for those environments.
3. You can also remove a tool by dragging it from the shortcut
bar and you can resize the shortcut bar by moving the pointer over
an edge and dragging it.
