Changing the Way You View Technical
Documentation
One of the biggest obstacles and objections to overcome in Sales
is the "Status Quo". When talking with customers &
prospects, I know they have a system in place that is obviously
getting the job done….They are getting designs completed, products
are being fully developed, parts, machines & products are being
manufactured, and technical documentation is getting printed.
But the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality is a dangerous
CAD adage to live by!
Let's take technical documentation as an example. Almost
everyone needs to produce it: repair manuals, parts catalogs,
assembly instructions, product manuals, etc… Most of you in the CAD
world rely on your engineers or designers to create screen shots of
the product. Have you ever heard, "It has to be at this
particular angle and show an exploded view"…to most of you this
sounds familiar in the engineering department. So, do you
make a configuration of the model so you don't accidentally make
changes to the completed model? How long does it take you to
pull each part off an assembly to show an exploded view? If
it isn't "just right", do you have to do it again?

Edit Multiple Values in a SolidWorks BOM
Multiple values for a custom property can be edited through the
bill of material table instead of opening each part one at a
time. If multiple cells corresponding to the same column are
selected, an option called "Edit multiple property values" is
available through the Right+Click menu.
Example:
The BOM contains a column called "MAKE OR BUY" which is tied to
a custom property in each of the parts called "MakeOrBuy".
All of the values are empty.

Multiple cells can be selected using the Shift and Ctrl
keys. Once the desired cells are selected, right click and
choose the option "Edit multiple property values".

Enter the value in the edit field dialog.

Result

This can be repeated to fill in the property values for the
remaining parts.

Reviewing the individual part, the custom property for MakeOrBuy
is filled in for the part.
