"SolidWorks Flow Simulation allows us to identify cold and
hot spots ahead of time....With SolidWorks Flow Simulation, we can
create high-heat components and quality products without thermal
issues, down time, or additional costs."
- Mark Cooley, Senior Mold Manager
The Challenge
World Kitchen, LLC, produces its
tempered, heat-resistant Pyrex® bakeware in a facility that has
manufactured glass products since 1889. Until 2006, the Pyrex plant
used 2D design tools to develop its products in conjunction with a
trial-and-error approach to its thermoform-mold manufacturing
process. The company believed that 3D technology could help them
leverage fluid-flow simulation tools to streamline the
thermoforming process.
The Solution
The glassmaker chose SolidWorks® Premium 3D CAD and SolidWorks
Flow Simulation fluid-flow analysis software because the integrated
solution was easy to use, improved design visualization, and
enabled the company to accurately simulate its thermoforming
manufacturing process. By implementing SolidWorks solutions, World
Kitchen reduced design times by 40 percent, cut annual development
costs by over $230,000, improved product quality, and accelerated
thermal balancing in bakeware products.
The Results
- Reduced design times by 40 percent
- Cut annual development costs by over $230,000
- Improved product quality
- Accelerated thermal balancing in bakeware products

"By using SolidWorks CAD software, we are able to save time
and control current manufacturing costs, while we continuously
strive to innovate the rebreather diving system of the
future."
- Peter Readey, Owner
The Challenge
Steam Machines, Inc. (SMI) pioneered the development of
cost-effective closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) diving systems and
is a leading manufacturer of CCR systems for recreational and
technical divers. The company used Pro/ENGINEER CAD software on
early CCR designs, but needed access to advanced design analysis
tools and a more efficient design platform that could streamline
the entire product development and manufacturing process.
The Solution
The company selected SolidWorks Premium and SolidWorks Flow
Simulation software because of its ease of use, compatibility with
other software applications, and advanced mold development and
analysis tools. SMI also saw the value of integrated SolidWorks
Simulation software, SolidWorks eDrawings communications,
photorealistic rendering, and animation tools. By moving to
SolidWorks CAD software, SMI compressed its design cycles, reduced
its manufacturing costs, eliminated the production of prototypes,
and optimized the performance of its systems.
The Results
- Compressed design cycles
- Reduced manufacturing costs
- Eliminated prototype production
- Optimized system performance
