Video Killed the Audio Call

The Importance of Webcams in a Remote Work World

On August 1, 1981, MTV played its first-ever music video, Video Killed the Radio Star. If the Buggles wrote that song today, they might have sung, “videoconferencing killed the remote co-worker” – especially if said colleague lacked a webcam.

Ok, that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as their iconic melody. But the fact remains that many employees forced to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic are in a real pickle if their computers don’t have video capabilities. And that’s just when they merely have to show up for a video call. Imagine the stress if you’re asked to make a savvy presentation or lead a webinar that involves multiple video angles (and don’t even get me STARTED on the fact that you’re missing out on all the fun virtual happy hours going on!). Good luck balancing your iPhone on your bookshelf to get the right shot!

DesignPoint is passionate about providing Great Products, Fanatical Service and being a Trusted Partner. Typically, the Great Products we’re thinking about are related to 3D hardware  and software. But lately, there’s another product we can’t do without…a great webcam. That’s why we were delighted to see that TechRadar released a list of 2020’s best rated webcams. Take a look at their recommendations and get ready for your close-up. Your team members will be delighted to see your smiling face (and maybe your dance moves at the next virtual happy hour)!
